These Iconic F1 Tracks are the Stuff of Legends

The world of F1 is big, and the tracks that host it are located all over the world. These tracks are all thrilling, and many are noted for their scenic beauty, tricky physics, and roaring local crowds. These two tracks, in particular, are the stuff of legends among F1 fans the world over.

Most F1 races take place on carefully engineered tracks that have been plotted out as dedicated racetracks. Circuit de Monaco, on the other hand, turns the world's second-smallest country into a racetrack in itself. Running a little more than 2 miles around the glamorous Mediterranean city-state, the 61 races this track has hosted were the last real, street-level races in the circuit's history — its roads were designed to be raced on. Though technical advances have made cars too fast to manage this track, it lives on as one of the legendary F1 circuits from days gone by.

Monza has hosted more Grand Prix than any other track on the F1 circuit. Since the first race held here, in 1922, the track has earned worldwide respect for three things: the track itself, the pioneering use of a banked oval, and the crowds. Every driver who's negotiated Monza in the last 100 years has learned to respect world-famous curves like Curva Grande, the Lesmos and Parabolica. The banked oval, which was not original to the track but added later, allows increasingly fast cars to take curves at their maximum tolerance. As for the crowds, the Italians who gather at Monza are the original tifosi, arguably the most knowledgeable and motivated racing fans in the world.
