There is a plank that can be found on the bottom of a F1 car. It was introduced for the purpose of making sure that F1 cars don't violate the minimum riding height requirement because too much wear on it will cause the driver to be disqualified. The plank was one of a number of safety changes introduced in response to a fatal accident in 1994.

The plank is made out of a wood material called Jabroc. However, it has titanium skid blocks embedded in it, which protrude from it by no more than 3mm. As such, the skid blocks come into contact with the ground first, thus sending up a shower of sparks.
