The Best Teams In Sports History

There are good teams, great teams and championship teams every year, but there are only a few teams who truly capture the imagination of sports fans everywhere. These teams fall into that last category, as they dominated their sports to a ridiculous level in rolling to the title.
If you came up against one of these squads, you knew your team was likely in for a rough afternoon. These are widely considered the best teams in sports history!
1927 New York Yankees

Having Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in the same lineup already warrants consideration, but Miller Huggins' team, known as Murderer's Row, had much more. Center fielder Earle Combs and second baseman Tony Lazzeri also made the Hall of Fame, while the Yankees had two Hall of Fame starters in Waite Hoyt and Herb Pennock and an ace reliever in Wilcy Moore.
In 2020, a Yankees fan site simulated a series between the 1927 Yankees and the 1998 Yankees, considered the greatest modern era team. The 1927 team completed a four-game sweep. That's power.
1995-96 Chicago Bulls

Missing out on a championship after ending his retirement didn't sit well with Michael Jordan, and in case you haven't heard, he tends to take those things personally. The Bulls came back the next year with a 72-10 record and never lost more than three games in a month.
Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and others ensured Chicago would never be challenged in 1996, as the Bulls averaged 105.2 points per game and gave up just 92.9.
1989 San Francisco 49ers

There are teams with better records, but none with better talent. The 49ers won 13 games by double digits and had two Hall of Fame quarterbacks on their roster in Joe Montana and Steve Young. Their offense featured Jerry Rice and Roger Craig, and the defense was also loaded, with Ronnie Lott and Charles Haley standing out for a deep unit.
Denver couldn't come close against them in the big game, losing 55-10 in the biggest blowout in Super Bowl history.
1983-84 Edmonton Oilers

It took an all-time great to end the New York Islanders' dynasty, and the Oilers were that and more. Edmonton scored 446 goals on its way to its first Stanley Cup, as Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Paul Coffey combined for an unthinkable 432 points. Add in two-star goalies in Andy Moog and Grant Fuhr, and this team's success was a sure thing.
1992 Dream Team

Here's how dominant Jordan, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and the rest of the Dream Team were: Croatia lost the gold-medal game by 32 points and was happy to play them that close.
The Americans won games by an average of 43.8 points and didn't have anyone come closer than Croatia's 32-point loss. This was simply the best collection of basketball talent ever assembled, and no team before or since has come close to this domination.
